Everything on it — pages, text, images, and store listings — is ours, with the exception of the linked third-party checkout pages on Payhip and BookVault described below, which those companies own and operate.
The text, artwork, and design of “The Misadventures of Alice in DevelopmentLand”, and the content of this website, are protected by copyright and remain the property of Douglas Andrew Reeler, across all editions and platforms. Purchasing a copy gives you the right to read it for personal use; it does not give you the right to copy, redistribute, or resell it, in whole or in part, without written permission.
The book is a work of satire. Nothing on this site or in the book constitutes professional, financial, or legal advice. To the extent permitted by South African law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from use of this site or the book.
Our responsibility under these terms is limited to orders placed and paid for directly on this site via Payfast — that is, the South African printed edition. The digital edition (EPUB and PDF) is sold through our listing on Payhip (payhip.com), and the internationally-shipped printed edition is sold through our listing on BookVault (shop.bookvault.app). Those are separate checkouts operated by those companies, and purchases made there form a separate contract governed by Payhip's or BookVault's own terms and policies shown at the time of purchase, not by this page.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and any dispute arising from them is subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.
To place an order through this store, you must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract and must provide accurate, current details for delivery and billing. All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR); the R285.00 price for the South African printed edition includes delivery. Orders are processed through Payfast, a licensed South African payment gateway; we do not store your card details. You agree not to use the store for any fraudulent or unlawful purpose. A contract for the sale of goods is formed once payment has been successfully processed and you have received an order confirmation.
We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our products, processes, or legal requirements. The current version is always available on this page and takes effect from the date it is posted. Continued use of the store after an update is posted means you accept the revised terms; changes will not be applied retroactively to an order you placed before they were posted.
We may cancel or refuse an order before it has been dispatched — for example, if an item is mispriced or unavailable, or we reasonably suspect fraud or a breach of these terms — in which case you will be refunded in full. You may likewise cancel an order by contacting us before it has been dispatched. Once a copy has been dispatched, cancellation is handled under our Refund and Returns Policy rather than under this clause.

This policy applies only to the South African printed edition bought directly on this site and paid for via Payfast.
If your printed copy arrives damaged, defective, or different from what you ordered, contact dougreeler@gmail.com within 14 days of delivery with your order number and a photo of the issue. Once confirmed, we will offer a replacement copy or a full refund, including original delivery costs. We do not offer refunds or exchanges for a simple change of mind, as each copy is printed to order.
Approved refunds are paid back to your original Payfast payment method and are typically reflected within 7–10 business days of approval, depending on your bank or card provider.
These are not sold on this site or paid for via Payfast. The digital edition is bought and delivered through Payhip (payhip.com); its refund terms are shown on that checkout. The internationally-shipped printed edition is bought and fulfilled through BookVault (shop.bookvault.app); its returns and refund terms are shown on that checkout. Please raise refund requests for those editions directly with Payhip or BookVault, though you are welcome to contact dougreeler@gmail.com as well if you get stuck.

The R285 price includes delivery. Orders are dispatched shortly after they are placed and typically arrive within 4–7 business days via courier to a street address. Delivery times may be longer to rural or outlying areas.
If your order hasn't arrived within this window, email dougreeler@gmail.com with your order number and we will look into it with the courier on your behalf.
These are not shipped or delivered through this site. The digital edition is delivered instantly by Payhip on payment. The internationally-shipped printed edition is produced and shipped directly by BookVault, typically within 10–20 working days for production and delivery combined, depending on customs processing in the destination country. Delivery timing and shipping costs for both are shown on their respective checkouts.
